Underpayers named and shamed

1 day Nearly 500 business have been fined for paying some employees below the national minimum wage.

Construction supply chain companies figure in the list of 491 businesses named and shamed by the Department for Business and Trade for under-paying employees.

They include:

  • SMC Builders Limited, Maghera, BT45, failed to pay 拢21,123.55 to 5 workers.
  • D&R Carpentry Limited, Horley, RH6, failed to pay 拢7,640.55 to 10 workers.
  • Ervin Construction Services Limited, Thames Ditton, KT7, failed to pay 拢5,554.12 to 8 workers.
  • Wack Wholesale (Building Supplies) Limited, Cramlington, NE23, failed to pay 拢4,264.47 to 8 workers.
  • Thomas Storey Fabrications Group Limited, Openshaw, M11, failed to pay 拢3,770.46 to 1 worker.
  • DPH Construction (North East) Limited, Tyne and Wear, NE29, failed to pay 拢2,072.51 to 8 workers.
  • Woodstone Construction (SW) Limited, Bath, BA2, failed to pay 拢1,855.47 to 1 worker.
  • MJM Builders Limited, Glasgow, G68, failed to pay 拢1,773.07 to 1 worker.
  • Construction Recruitment Services Limited, Brentwood, CM15, failed to pay 拢1,038.96 to 2 workers.
  • Galliford Try Employment Limited, Uxbridge, UB8, failed to pay 拢1,029.92 to 4 workers.

From April 2025, the national minimum wage is 拢12.21 per hour for those aged 21 and over, 拢10 for those aged 18 to 20, 拢7.55 for under 18s and apprentices.

The worst offenders were Euro Garages Limited of Blackburn, which failed to pay 拢824,383.62 to 3,317 workers, and Salford-based Red Contract Solutions (Back Office Support) Limited, which failed to pay 拢652,395.20 to 11,631 workers.
