Morgan Sindall Construction鈥檚 North East and Cumbria business has begun site work for a new 拢7.5m headquarters at RAF Leeming, near Northallerton, for the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and the Yorkshire Universities Air Squadron (YUAS).

The new single-storey Squadron HQ building will include offices, an operations room and a workshop, as well as several changing and storage facilities.

The need for the building follows the relocation of YUAS to RAF Leeming from RAF Linton-on-Ouse, which is being closed and sold for alternative use as part of the Ministry of Defence estate rationalisation.

Morgan Sindall has been contracted to deliver the design & build, supported by Aecom as technical services provider.

At a ground breaking ceremony to mark the start on site, Morgan Sindall area director Alex Isted said: 鈥淭his project represents an exciting opportunity to further develop our partnership with the DIO, with further projects due to start in 2026. We look forward to completing our work here, and to future opportunities to work alongside one another, improving the estate for all elements of the armed forces.鈥

As well as the new YUAS HQ building, minor refurbishment works are being carried out on an existing hangar to improve operational capacity for No.9 Air Experience Flight, which provides introductory flying experience to cadets from the鈥疉ir Training Corps.
